Phoretix 1D offers automatic lane and band detection or, for even deeper automation and standardisation of your workflow, user-defined protocols which allow full one-click analysis of gel or Western blot images. This removes the potential for operator error entirely.
Coupled with intuitive background removal using industry-leading algorithms, molecular weight calculation, quantity calibration and normalisation Phoretix 1D has all the modern tools required for comprehensive experimental analysis.
Our software is device agnostic, so can help reduce costs as it can be used with your existing laboratory equipment, it also works with all industry-standard image formats (.tif, .tiff, .gel, .img, .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp and .png) and is compatible with the latest versions of both Windows and macOS operating systems (11 and Monterey).

Our simplified workflow guides the user through their gel electrophoresis and blotting analysis whilst leaving a large, central viewing area of the image and data being analysed.

How can I analyse a Western blot?
Why does automatic lane creation fail on my gel?
There could be several reasons why this happens…
- The lanes are short or have very few bands
- The lanes are too close together so the algorithm cannot split them
- The lanes are not quite the same width which is an assumption the algorithm uses
- The resolution of the image is very low and there is not enough band information
Using an AOI for lane detection can help (draw a box when in automatic detection mode) or simply try to create the lanes manually.
